Chinkstar is a novel by Jon Chan Simpson about a teenager and his search for his own voice set in a parallel universe where Asian Hip Hop movement called Chinksta Rap is all the craze.

I was approached by Coach House Books and Jon to make a cover the book, and immediately loved it when they told me the storyline. I wanted to make a cover that had just as much attitude as the book itself because it’s written almost like a graphic novel, but without the graphic. I came up with a simple illustration inspired by the plot of the book and a completely custom logotype for the title.
